We’re doing our part to help our fans not ruin their life by making these common facebook faux pas. That’s Rule 11… When theres big news to tell you might want to let those that ‘need to know’ know first. Rule 12… Save the cat fights for when you’re at a bar so everyone can be entertained.

Rule 13… Expect men to be men.

Rule 14… We’ll repeat this rule from earlier. Don’t f’in forget your mom is your facebook friend.

Rule 15… Some people shouldn’t be on facebook at all. Are you one of them?

That’s number 6… Somethings should stay offline. Not everyone knows your friend like you do. Number 7… Review your post before you send it. There might be some hidden innuendo you might be missing.

Number 8… Don’t be the guy who ruins it for everyone. Just because you feel a need to post doesn’t always mean you should. Take 10 minutes and ponder whether your post may make all your friends hate you.

Number 9… Don’t assume anything. It may also help you not act douchey. You may not be as cutesy as you think you are.

Number 10… Holy bejesus.. Keep somethings to yourself. Posting that you have a cold and are miserable is perfectly fine. This, however, is taking it too far.

Follow these simple rules for a less embarrassing experience online…

Number 1… Don’t forget your mom or other family members are your friends.

Number 2… Don’t trash talk your boss!

Number 3… Be thankful for what you have.

Number 4… Family comes first.

Number 5… Know there’s a difference between a message and your wall posts.

Tofu isn’t fish. We know that. But tofu is an essential part of many of our best dishes. It’s what makes Sticky Balls happen, and for that, we are *so* thankful.

Tofu is made of coagulated soy milk curds, and is called tofu because that sounds a lot better than “coagulated soy bean curds.” Tofu’s origins can be traced back to the Bencao Gangmu, an ancient Chinese medial text (“materia medica”) dated to 1578. Our tofu dishes, fortunately, are much fresher than that, but it’s good to know where your A-Game comes from. Tofu’s spread from China to the rest of Asia (and, most important to us, Japan), likely followed the spread of Buddhism & the subsequent vegetarian lifestyle. We definitely love our vegetarian customers, and as such, we’re doing Sushi Heaven for vegetarians on Wednesdays in April! 1/2 price vegetarian sushi tonight, from 10:30p-12:30a, as part of our Earth Month Celebration!

Our A-Game of tofu comes in two forms: inari (tofu pockets) and momendofu, firm white tofu. We serve inari as-is, and in one of our best known dishes, Sticky Balls:

This picture is a good example of a creative use of inari, and also of bokeh, which is not sushi ingredient at all but a fascinating concept nonetheless. Inari traces it’s roots back to 1782′s Tofu Hyakuchin, a japanese cookbook by Ka Hitsujun. We use white tofu in other dishes; we serve it fried as Tofu Bites with teriyaki sauce, and sauteed in several noodle dishes. The bottom line? We love tofu.

I feel like lately I’ve been eating out quite a bit. Not sure if the Restaurant Week is to blame, or the fact that I’ve been doing freelance cooking and photography for Robyn Webb, leaving less time for me to come up with my own recipes (other perks are awesome though!!!). Regardless, here’s another mini review of my lunch at Sticky Rice with Stephanie.

Stephanie and I signed up to take a 4 week intro to digital photography class, and this past Saturday we had a field trip around Union Station. Being huge fans of food, we decided to head out for lunch right after the class. Unfortunately, the place we were planning on checking out, Toscana Cafe, was closed for lunch. We stopped by at a nearby coffee cafe and asked for recommendations. We were told to check out Sticky Rice. I’ve heard of this place multiple times, and so Stephanie and I headed out to find this restaurant.

Thankfully, the day was sunny and warm and we happily chatted as we walked. A word of caution: I must admit that the neighborhood surrounding Sticky Rice is somewhat sketchy. It’s on its way to being hip and popular, but it’s not quite there yet. I was definitely happy we were walking there together and during a day light.

Once we found Sticky Rice, we were told there’d be a 25 minute wait. Both of us had a look of surprise on our faces as we clearly could see at least 3 empty booths. Turns out, they only serve food upstairs on Saturdays. Ok, we decided to wait.

Once upstairs, I absolutely LOVED the decor, and was happy to have my Canon Rebel with me so that I could snap a “few” photos.

I find these paintings fascinating! Can you imagine tattooing something like that on your back? I must admit I’ve been fascinated with tattoos for a long time. But I dislike making decisions and dislike pain–>making getting a tattoo rather difficult.

Ok, let’s talk about food now. By the time we were seated, we were both starving. The menu was quite versatile: anything from tuna rolls (the most out-of-the-box combinations) to grits with shrimp. And yet, I decided on a combination of tater tots (haven’t had those in ages), eggs, bacon, cheese, scallions and red onions. OMG this was so good! I could have easily taken 1/2 of the portion home, but I was a trooper and finished everything on my plate

Stephanie chose a few items from the sushi menu. The presentation was spectacular, and the one I tasted, Sticky balls (tuna, crab, siracha rice in an inari pocket deep fried and topped with scallions, wasabi dressing and eel sauce) was very impressive. I really liked the combination of different textures, flavors and colors.

I really enjoyed brunch at Sticky Rice. Great service, atmosphere and food. If you go, make sure to schedule some time for a nap afterwards.

This Saturday is my last photo class with Stephanie. Luckily, this is not the end of our eating adventures!

Oh, and on the way back from the restaurant I found gorgeous purple Italian yarn. A great day!

Unknown to the world, Ricky Martin of ‘Livin La Vida Loca’ fame is homosexual. When asked for comment, his boyfriend was completely stunned and caught with his pants down.

Salmon roe for sushi is prepared by separating the individual roes and soaking them in soy sauce and Japanese rice wine (sake). This removes the strong fishy flavor and makes the texture of the roe smoother, and lighter. Each individual roe remains swollen, lightens up in color, and becomes a more enjoyable texture on the palate.
A couple ingredients are added to to make the salmon roe sushi more artistic, and they are quail egg and cucumber slices. They act as neutralizers for those who may think that the taste of the roe is too overpowering.

Since the salmon roe are immersed in soy sauce, not much more is required. However, if it is required, then a drop or to should be place on top of the salmon roe directly from the soy sauce dispenser. A little wasabi enhances the sweet flavors from the richness of the roe.

There are some who we love and there are some that show us love. When that happens within the same person it is double love. Thank you for your continued support.

Saint Patrick (c. 387–461)
Little is known of Patrick’s early life, though it is known that he was born in Roman Britain in the fifth century, into a wealthy Romano-British family. His father and grandfather were deacons in the Church. At the age of sixteen, he was kidnapped by Irish raiders and taken captive to Ireland as a slave.[1] It is believed he was held somewhere on the west coast of Ireland, possibly Mayo, but the exact location is unknown. According to his Confession, he was told by God in a dream to flee from captivity to the coast, where he would board a ship and return to Britain. Upon returning, he quickly joined the Church in Auxerre in Gaul and studied to be a priest.

Wearing Of Green
Originally the colour associated with Saint Patrick was blue. However, over the years the colour green and its association with Saint Patrick’s day grew. Green ribbons and shamrocks were worn in celebration of St Patrick’s Day as early as the 17th century. He is said to have used the shamrock, a three-leaved plant, to explain the Holy Trinity to the pre-Christian Irish, and the wearing and display of shamrocks and shamrock-inspired designs have become a ubiquitous feature of the day. Then in the 1798 rebellion in hopes of making a political statement Irish soldiers wore full green uniforms on 17 March in hopes of catching attention with their unusual fashion gimmick.The phrase “the wearing of the green”, meaning to wear a shamrock on one’s clothing, derives from the song of the same name.

Judging from the looks of these videos- Tuesday was really fun. There were some great performances and some reaaaly bad ones but the drinks were flowing and people were ganging up on the mike – getting nutz.
