Hormones abound
Did you know that open-mouth kissing allows for the transfer of hormones from a man to a woman? Mucus membranes in the mouth are permeable to hormones like testosterone, which a man can introduce into a woman’s mouth through kissing. The testosterone then increases arousal in the woman, which leads to higher chances of sex!

Make or break
Remember the scene in “27 Dresses” where Katherine Heigl’s character finally kisses her crush/boss and she says it just doesn’t feel right? That’s because kissing is the ultimate “mate assessment tool” that allows us to find a partner who we are genetically compatible with. That’s why first kisses can make or break a relationship. Biology can determine whether two people are compatible or not.

Exchanging fluids
Kissing obviously is also an exchange of saliva between two people. But did you know that the salts, minerals, and other substances in saliva that cause the smell of your breath to change can also regulate a woman’s receptivity to sexual activities?

Fights and kisses
We’ve all seen Hollywood movies depict a man and a woman rushing together for a long and passionate kiss after an intensely emotional fight. In real life, men are more likely to use kissing as an attempt to end a fight.

Kiss for immunity
Kissing has long been recognized as a good way for our bodies to pass along bugs that help build immunity. Once you’ve contracted a bug, your body then learns to strengthen itself despite showing symptoms of a cold or flu. Kissing merely helps expedite our immune system-boosting processes.

Kiss of a lifetime
Whether it’s a quick peck on the cheek before heading out the door in the morning or a long passionate kiss that marks the completion of a marvelous date, kissing is a commonplace activity. The average person spends approximately 20,160 minutes of his/her life kissing!

Rest and relaxation
Did you know that kissing creates feel-good chemicals in our bodies that help us feel relaxed? Research shows that kissing increases levels of oxytocin in our bodies, which is a natural calming chemical, and increases endorphins. Dopamine levels can also increase, leading to happy feelings of romantic attachment.

In New Zealand Geoff Flood was walking along a beach when he found a bottle containing a note. He told local media, “As I picked it up and started looking, I could see it was an old envelope with P&O on it and I thought this might be something special. There was a bit of mad panic to carefully extract it. I carefully cut a couple of bits of wire and quietly wound it up with the bits of wire so we didn’t damage it. [I thought] Who knows where it’s been. How many times around the world, you just wouldn’t know, would you?”

The note, dated March 17, said: “At sea. Would the finder of this bottle kindly forward this note, where found, date, to undermentioned address.” Underneath the note was written the name: “H E Hillbrick, 72, Richmond Street, Leederville, Western Australia.”

Flood tracked down H. E. Hillbrick only to find that he had died in the 1940s. But his investigations lead him to Hillbrick’s grandson Peter Hillbrick, who was living in Perth, Western Australia. Peter’s guessed that his grandfather had tossed the note into the ocean in 1936, while on on board the SS Strathnaver, a British Royal Mail Ship that carried people between England and Australia. Peter’s family has photographs of Herbert and his wife Ethel took on board the ship.

For Peter, the discovery of the bottle was very important as his grandfather died before Peter was born. Peter told the local media, “The only connection I have with Grandfather is now that bottle. That’s about all. So, it’s a fascinating story.”

Mr Hillbrick has decided to donate the bottle to a maritime museum in New Zealand.

Coming in late 2013: streetcars to H Street! The H/Benning line will be the first segment of the new DC Streetcar system to offer passenger service. H/Benning is a 2.4-mile segment that will serve residents, businesses, commuters and visitors between Union Station on the west and the Anacostia River on the east. Ultimately, the H/Benning line segment will be just one piece of the overall One City Line that will traverse the city east to west from beyond the Anacostia to the Georgetown waterfront.

How nice are these things? Maybe their price tag can tell us something. Michael Neibauer reports that the District Department of Transportation has awarded the contract for two new streetcars to a Portland company, which offered a price of $8.7 million for the pair. That’s $3.7 million for each 144-passenger vehicle, plus another $1.3 million for design, delivery, and insurance.

By contrast, Metro’s new buses cost $570,000 each and can fit about 80 people total. The schmancy new 7000-series rail cars cost about $2 million each (including shipping, parts, etc.), have 64 seats, and roomier aisles for more people standing. We knew the streetcar wasn’t going to be cheap, but damn.

Tobiko is the Japanese word for the flying fish roe. It is most widely known for its use in creating certain types of sushi.
The eggs are small, ranging from 0.5 mm – 0.8 mm. For comparison, tobiko is larger than masago, (capelin roe), but smaller than ikura, (salmon roe). Natural tobiko has a red-orange color, a mild smoky or salty taste, and a crunchy texture.

Tobiko, shown in its natural color, topping grilled Albacore tuna. Sometimes tobiko is colored to change its appearance, other natural ingredients are used to accomplish the change, such as, squid ink to make it black, yuzu to make it pale orange (almost yellow), or even wasabi to make it green and spicy. Sometimes a serving of tobiko contains several pieces, each having a different color.

Nutrition

The raw roe is very nutritious, due to its high vitamin content, high protein content, and large ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids.[1] Although it contains a large amount of cholesterol, the amount of roe consumed in typical servings, about a tablespoon, does not create an issue in a healthy diet since it amounts to approximately seventeen percent of the recommended daily value for cholesterol.

Sushi Heaven tonight!!

A giant complex all for 3 weeks of practice, wow. The training center – a partnership of the Redskins, the City of Richmond and Bon Secours Virginia Health System – will host the first summer training camp for the team between July 25 and Aug. 16.

Tens of thousands of visitors are expected everyday to watch the skins practice. The coach staff and players have also said they will make themselves available for meet & greet pictures! Sticky Rice couldn’t be happier and we’re hoping to persuade some players into our establishment!

From the Cous Cous family, we proudly introduce The Well. We are a restaurant and bar for everyone featuring a warm and inviting dining room, a larger bar, and a lounge area.

We provide a well rounded menu with hearty soups, fresh salads, a wide array of sandwiches, entrees and must have desserts. Nightly specials available also. Our bar menu boasts classic cocktails and house specialties (all named after our staff’s dogs and one duck named Goose).

We searched for a name that captured the feel of the room, our city, and the history of our building. The Chesterfield was the first high rise apartment building in Richmond, VA. When The Chesterfield was erected in 1903 a 356 deep Artesian well was added to provide tenants with quality water. The focus of The Well is to provide quality food and beverage for our guests.

Throughout the summer we will be open Monday through Saturday 4pm-2am serving food until 1am. In the fall, we will begin opening for lunch Monday through Friday and serve Sunday brunch.

Ah yes… the ladies we grew up with. All these girls still look amazing today but back then they were magical. In no particular order really but heres #10 Heather Graham…

Ok. So we don’t know what that bipedal fish is called and the science may still be out about that creature. However, we did recognize that other long see-through snake-like creature. It was actually a colony of salps….

Salps are not Jellyfish!
Salps certainly look like jellies! But if you look closely at an individual salp, you’ll see that it is actually a complex organism compared to a jelly. The salp has internal organs and structures that jellies don’t have, such as a heart, vascular system, pharynx, and gonads.

Although salps may look like spineless jellyfish, biologists actually consider salps to part of the phylum of chordates—the group of vertebrate and invertebrate animals that at some point in their life cycle have at least rudimentary spinal cords or true backbones.
In their adult form, salps have lost almost all of the features that would classify them at chordates. They do indeed look like a kind of jellyfish. However, in their larval stage, salps have many of the anatomical features of true vertebrate animals such as fish, birds, reptiles, and mammals.

Cinco de Mayo arrives in style this year, sprinkling the skies with shooting stars shed from the dusty tail of Halley’s comet.

Dust shed from the tail of Halley’s comet will blossom into a shooting star show to start off Cinco de Mayo, astronomers report.

About 30 shooting stars an hour should be seen in clear skies for the yearly Eta Aquarid meteor shower, which peaks this year around 9 p.m. EDT on May 5,according to NASA estimates

The meteors will appear from the constellation Aquarius (hence the shower’s name) to skywatchers, who are advised to pack a lawn chair and find a place far away from city lights for the best viewing.
