Heavy Metal Reviews From Sticky Rice

Posted by Sticky on Thu, Apr 5, 2012 in Blog

Join us, if you dare on a savage arcane review of few killer album released in 2012. (or late 2011) Cannibal Corpse and Napalm Death have both put out new records in the past few months but we’re going to go a little deeper into to dank grotto crypt of the genre. Turn off the lights and brace yourself for the infernal crusade of darkness!

SPEED WOLF – RIDE WITH DEATH

If they weren’t that good it would seem fair for a better band to club them to death and steal their name. Luckily for Speed Wolf they are much more than a clever name. It’s Motorhead with a thrash metal drummer, simple as that. This is the record you want to throw on at 2AM to keep the party going.

KETZER – METROPOLIS

Yet another great release from the record label Hell’s Headbangers. (who also released Speed Wolf) The kids in the cut off denim jackets call this Blackened Thrash. We think it sounds like a long lost Kreator record. The cover could have been a lot better but it’s worth over looking that little detail.

BLACK BREATH – SENTENCED TO LIFE

Black Breath is a Hardcore band that always seemed to veer towards the metal inclination. Now it’s much more pronounced. They haven’t gone full tilt Exciter like the album cover suggests. It dose sounds like they’ve been listening to the Haunted’s Deathrace King album a lot in the tour van. This is a solid album from start to finish.

ROT IN HELL – HALLWAYS OF THE ALWAYS

Will 2012 be the year Metalcore stop sucking? Rot In Hell is a group from the UK who worship the 90′s band Integrity. They do a cover of the band’s song, Kingdom of Heaven. That’s 90′s nostalgia we can live with. They capture the essence of Integrity with all of it’s dark apocalyptic glory. They also capture an overwhelming dirty anger that can’t be faked.

MUTILATION RITES – DEVOID

Mutilation Rites is a Black Metal band from Brooklyn New York, not Norway or Sweden. They write damn good music and stick to the older classic style of the genre. They don’t fool around with experimentation or write manifestos. They don’t get caught up in the silly antics of face paint, animal blood and murder. We only hope that they can set a new trend in Black Metal from all the thing they do and don’t do. Thank Force Field records for this one.

OBSESSESOR – SICK SALVATION

Obsessesor is a one man project by Brandon Ferrell who has also been in Direct Control, Wasted Time, Municipal Waste and Government Warning. It’s only two songs and it’s only on a cassette tape. The thing is that within these two songs are more headbanging potential than the entire existence of The Ozzfest. Obsessesor is completely worth a trip to the junk shop for an old tape deck. You can get hold of this via Tankcrimes (record label).

WEREGOAT – UNHOLY EXALTATION OF FULLMOON PERVERSITY

This record was performed by Neanderthal men on bathtub P.C.P. by torch light. The record was recorded in a castle dungeon. Blood and chains were involved. Some folks may find this kind of visceral onslaught off putting. These people can listen to the new Megadeth album and kiss Santorum’s butt. We’re going to hunt dire wolves and invoke the dark one.

We do have to subtract points from Weregoat, cause they’re from Portland, sorry…A-

SPAWN OF POSSESSION – INCURSO

Wow! Do you like technical brutal Death Metal? How much? This is a pretty good album (no, really. we do like it, but…) but it really tests the listener’s dedication to all things elaborate and complex. These guys don’t have posters hanging in their practice room because there isn’t any space left with all the dry-erase maker boards on the walls, charting out impossibly perplexing songs. Also the guitar tone isn’t any good. What’s up with crazy talented bands who can’t get a decent guitar tone?!?!

Hope you’ve enjoyed our little trip through hell, now go eat Tots, drink beers, listen the Heavy Metal and worship Satan!
